It's important to be aware of the signals your body sends you. Some symptoms may be more pronounced than others; refer to the list of common complaints.
Common causes of back pain include muscle or ligament strain, posture compensation, and spinal conditions like disc degeneration.
-
Lumbar strain/sprain (muscle strain or ligament sprain in the lower back)
-
Sciatic nerve irritation (possible cause may be an overactive piriformis muscle or herniated disc*)
-
Degenerative disc disease (deteriorating spinal discs)
*Note - if a herniated disc is suspected, you will be referred for medical examination, and a letter can be provided to support the suspected diagnosis.
🚩 MEDICAL ATTENTION - Bowel/bladder dysfunction (most commonly urinary retention). Saddle anaesthesia. Bilateral nerve irritation/weakness.
-
Neck pain often results from factors such as posture compensation, underlying health conditions, prolonged desk work, stress, or neck muscle strain.
-
Whiplash (neck injury due to sudden movement)
-
Cervical spondylosis (age-related wear and tear)
-
Neck muscle strain (due to posture compensation or overuse)
🚩 MEDICAL ATTENTION - Neck pain with bilateral nerve irritation/loss of function in upper limbs. Severe neck pain following a trauma (e.g., car accident). If age 50+, pain or fatigue while chewing may be present alongside new-onset headache in the temporal area, or scalp tenderness.
-
Shoulder injuries can be caused by overuse, repetitive motion, sports activities, or accidents, leading to pain and reduced mobility.
-
Dislocated or subluxed shoulder (joint injury from trauma)
-
Frozen shoulder (stiffness and pain in the shoulder)
-
Rotator cuff injury (tear or inflammation in shoulder muscles)
🚩 MEDICAL ATTENTION - Shoulder pain with chest pain or difficulty breathing.
-
Headaches can be triggered by a variety of factors, including tension, stress, dehydration, or medical conditions like migraines.
-
Tension headaches (often related to stress or muscle tension)
-
Cervicogenic headaches (typically caused by problems with the vertebrae in the neck, neck muscles, or associated nerves)
-
Recurring headaches (difficult to diagnose, however, may be due to surrounding joints, eye strain or underlying medical condition)
-
Migraines* (severe, debilitating headaches with possible auras; common to experience nausea, dizziness and coordination issues)
*Note - migraines are a complicated condition. Manual therapy may help alleviate some symptoms; however, medical advice may be necessary to establish a firm diagnosis.
🚩 MEDICAL ATTENTION - Sudden onset of a severe headache (thunderclap headache). Headache accompanied by fever, neck stiffness, rash, facial or loss of limb function/weakness. If aged 50+, new-onset headache in the temporal area may be present with pain or fatigue while chewing, or scalp tenderness.
-
Joint pain is frequently caused by overuse, injuries, or chronic conditions like arthritis, leading to discomfort and mobility issues.
-
Repetitive motion injuries (like carpal tunnel syndrome due to office work)
-
Joint instability (perhaps linked to previous injury or hypermobility)
-
Bursitis (inflammation of the cushioning pads around joints)
-
Muscle strains typically occur due to overexertion, muscle imbalance, poor lifting, stress, or unfamiliar physical activities.
-
Hamstring strain (common in runners and recreational athletes)
-
Rotator cuff tear (shoulder muscle strain following unaccustomed actions)
-
Lower back muscle strain (often due to heavy lifting or following a slip, trip or fall)
🚩 MEDICAL ATTENTION - Swelling, tenderness, discolouration, or pain (cramping or tightness), particularly following long haul flight or prolonged bed rest.
-
Arthritis symptoms often arise from joint inflammation, wear and tear, leading to stiffness and pain that impact daily activities.
-
Osteoarthritis (wear and tear arthritis)
-
Rheumatoid arthritis (autoimmune joint inflammation)
-
Gout (uric acid crystal accumulation in joints)
-
Sports injuries are commonly due to overtraining, poor warm-up, accidents, or inadequate equipment, affecting performance.
-
Ligament sprain (common in high-impact and contact sports)
-
Tennis elbow (overuse injury of the elbow tendons, which may also occur from repetitive strain following prolonged desk work)
-
Fractures (common in contact sports, following trauma or repetitive actions)
🚩 MEDICAL ATTENTION - Difficulty breathing or chest pain after a sports injury. Loss of consciousness or disorientation after a head injury. Suspected fracture following trauma.

BESPOKE TREATMENTS
To support your recovery and help you return to an pain free, active lifestyle, all treatments incorporate proven modalities best suited to address the underlying causes of pain, not just the symptoms.
Sports Massage
A specialised form of massage therapy focusing on treating soft tissue aches, injuries, and pains associated with sports and physical activities, aiming to enhance performance, speed up recovery, and prevent injuries by improving flexibility and circulation.
Dry Needling
Targets pain generating tissues by inserting a fine, sterile needle into myofascial trigger points, aiming to release muscle tension, alleviate pain, and improve functional movement patterns. his technique is based on modern medical principles and is used to treat a variety of conditions.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
A non-invasive treatment method used to reduce pain, muscle sensitivity and inflammation by increasing blood flow to deliver necessary nutrients and oxygen, and remove waste products to the injured tissues, facilitating the healing process at the cellular level.
Dry Cupping
A traditional therapy that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction to stimulate blood flow and promote healing. Dry cupping is used to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation, making it a popular treatment for relief from muscular discomfort.
Corrective Exercise
An approach used to enhance and optimise movement patterns. This involves identifying and assessing inefficient movements and postural imbalances through a systematic approach using a structured and utilising a personalised exercise program to address the issues.
NMEs
Nerves and muscles are stimulated using gentle electrical currents; NMEs focuses primarily on muscle activation to prevent atrophy/strengthen muscles, often used post injury. TENS is primarily used for pain management by interrupting signals before they reach the brain.
SERVICES
Bespoke treatments focused on empowering you to enjoy moving without restriction by alleviating discomfort, improving functional health, and increasing physical capabilities.
